5 Signs it's likely time for Ignition Repair

5 Signs it's likely time for Ignition RepairIt's amazing that with the simple turn of the key you can start your car and be off to wherever you need to be. As car owners we take our vehicle's complex systems for granted way too often. In order to get the motor fired up a series of complex actions must take place in order to get your engine running. But yes, it all starts with turning of the key (or pushing of a button these days). When you turn the key it creates an electrical pathway that activates the starter motor, allowing it to spin the engine which in turn ignites fuel that is being pumped into the combustion chamber. However, if the ignition switch fails your vehicle won't be able to start. If you notice any of these symptoms of ignition failure be sure to call the auto shop to schedule repair so you don't run into a no-start situation.

Vehicle Stalls

If your car dies while driving or while at a stop light or stop sign this could be caused by a failing ignition switch. The malfunctioning switch will prevent the proper flow of electricity through your car.

Flickering Dashboard Lights

While less common, flickering dash lights are a sign of ignition trouble. The lights may flicker or your gauges could shut off periodically, signaling there is a good chance your ignition switch is on its way out.

Key won't Turn

If you cannot get the key to turn or if you're having to shake the key while it is in the ignition in order for it to turn then you're experiencing another positive sign of ignition problems.

No Noise from the Starter

If you turn the key do not hear any noise from the starter motor then it likely means that no electricity is being sent to the starter. This could be because the ignition switch is worn out and the necessary electrical pathway can't be created.

Car will not Start

While there are many things that can prevent a car from starting, the ignition switch is certainly one of them. If nothing happens when you turn the key then it could be a faulty ignition. However, another likely cause could simply be a dead battery.
