Simple Auto Maintenance for Increased MPGs

Don't you wish your car would go further on a single tank of gas? Well by ensuring you stay up with routine maintenance it is not impossible to get more bang for your buck at the pump. There are numerous services vehicles require, and all too often people put them off or simply never complete them. The following services are relatively easy and inexpensive, yet will do wonders for your fuel efficiency.

Inflate your Tires

Tires that are underinflated take more power to turn. You can find your tire's PSI (pounds per square inch) rating on the inside of your driver's door jamb. At any gas station you should be able to use the air machine and PSI gauge to properly inflate your tires. Underinflated tires can reduce fuel efficiency up to 2 percent per PSI under they are.

Clean Air Filter

If your vehicle's air filter becomes clogged it will prevent the proper air fuel mixture from being created. What will happen is the vehicle will end up burning additional gasoline since the car can not take in enough oxygen. This is a major waste of gasoline and it can cause additional problems for your engine.

New Spark Plug

The spark plugs are what ignite the air fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber. After many miles on the road the spark plugs may become dirty or corroded. This means that they could misfire, which results in a very rough running engine and a major decrease in miles per gallon.

Fuel Injection Service

If the fuel injection unit becomes dirty it will prevent the engine from being able to operate properly. What will happen is that contaminants will make their way inside the motor and be burnt with the fuel and and air. This greatly reduces engine power and it will cause a drop in MPGs.

Keep up with Scheduled Maintenance

In order to keep your engine running right always keep up with other scheduled auto maintenance services. This includes oil changes! Delaying oil changes can cause major problems for the engine!
